BBC SPORT | Petacchi claims sprint victory

Italy's Alessandro Petacchi won the third stage of the Tour of Spain on Monday.

The Fassa Bortolo sprinter claimed the 154.3-kilometre run from Cangas de Onis thanks to a storming sprint finish in Santander.

Germany's Erik Zabel finished second, with Belgian Tom Boonen third. Spaniard Joaquin Rodriguez of the ONCE team retained his overall race lead.

Petacchi won six stages in the Giro, four in the Tour, and now one in the Vuelta, and is the first rider since Italy's Pierino Baffi in 1958 to take a stage at the three major national tours in the same year.
