BBC SPORT | Valverde grabs Murcia crown
Alejandro Valverde held onto a 5-second lead at the Tour of Murcia on Sunday, when the day's stage was determined by a sprint finish, won by Brazil's Luciano Pagliarini, who edged Erik Zabel and Miguel Perdiguero.
Afterwards Valverde said: "I have fulfilled my childhood dream. I am the first Murcian to win the race."
US Postal's Daniel Rincon, a Colombian who joined the team this year, was 11th overall; Lance Armstrong was 23rd, and T-Mobile's Jan Ullrich was 71st, 24:18 back.
