Dauphiné prologue: Mayo, Hamilton, Armstrong
The Dauphiné Libéré is the dress rehearsal for the Tour de France, and Iban Mayo and Tyler Hamilton showed Sunday they'll be in great form on the Tour start line July 3rd.
Mayo, of Euskaltel-Euskadi, took the short uphill time trial by .72 second over Tyler Hamilton of Phonak, and 1.42 seconds over Lance Armstrong. Complete results are up at The Daily Peloton.
Hamilton's Phonak team placed 5 riders in the top 8 on the time trial.
Armstrong on the stage:
"My sensations were good and I'm happy. The hill was very tough, especially near the top and that's when I was faster," Armstrong told Reuters. "I gave it my all in the descent while being careful not to kill myself. Everything's fine."
Other American riders were Levi Leipheimer, 10th at 11.35 seconds down, George Hincapie, 12th at 12.38 seconds, and Floyd Landis, 71st at 49.49 seconds. The race runs through next Sunday.
