DV's Scarponi: "perfect condition"

procycling | Scarponi aims for podium

Michele Scarponi of Domina Vacanze is pleased with his condition moving into the mountains, and thinks he can compete for the podium. Currently 33rd, 12:22 behind Thomas Voeckler, Scarponi has big plans:

“I’m looking forward to the mountains and I would like to win the Alpe d’Huez time trial. I want to leave an indelible mark on this Tour, maybe with a solo exploit in the mountains. It won’t be easy, but I [want] to give it a go. My team is built like a fortress around me.”

The 25-year-old Scarponi handicapped the GC race:

“For the yellow jersey, Armstrong is my favourite,” he continued. “He has another gear compared to Ullrich. Then there are Hamilton, Heras and Mayo, who are all in good shape physically, and me: I would like to get onto the podium. My fans will be on the Alps and I don’t want to disappoint them.”
