Padrnos, Zanini will remain in Tour
According to cyclingnews.com, US Postal's Pavel Padrnos and Quick Step's Stefano Zanini will be allowed to continue in the Tour, despite both being summoned to a court in San Remo, Italy to answer doping charges.
Cyclingnews.com quotes US Postal's team media manager Jogi Muller that the Tour organization and UCI disagreed over whether the two should be removed from the race.
Muller said that Padrnos in particular has had his case closed by the police, and must appear in October only to end the investigation. Muller repeated the team's claims that the "banned substance" that led to the Padrnos investigation is mannitol, which they say was used as a preservative in an amino acid Padrnos was using. Muller also said mannitol is no longer on the banned substances list.
Zanini also will be allowed to continue because the Amaury Sport Organisation (the Tour's operators) and the UCI disagree on his exclusion.
