Stage 14 underway

There's a 10-man breakaway of strong riders who are out of the GC race with 11 minutes on the field:

Egoi Martinez (Euskaltel-Euskadi)
Aitor Gonzalez (Fassa Bortolo)
Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano (Liberty Seguros)
Inigo Landaluze (Euskaltel-Euskadi)
Santiago Botero (T-Mobile)
Christophe Mengin (fdjeux.com)
Pierrick Fedrigo (Credit Agricole)
Nicolas Jalabert (Phonak)
Marc Lotz (Rabobank)
Peter Wrolich (Gerolsteiner)

They look likely to stay away, but it will be interesting to see this group whittle itself down to the stage winner.

And it's started: Aitor Gonzalez has gapped the break with 5 km to race after failed attempts by Igor Gonzalez de Galdeano and Pierrick Fedrigo.

Now Gonzalez de Galdeano (henceforth, "G de G") has gapped the other 8 breakaway riders, and been joined by Pierrick Fedrigo.

G de G and Fedrigo are caught, and Mengin and and Jalabert have split. Euskaltel's two riders have been totally uninvolved in the attacks the last few k.

If all 10 of the break make the finish ahead of the field, the sprint for 1st place in the peloton will still be worth 15 points in the green jersey competition, which Robbie McEwen leads by 9 points over Erik Zabel.
