And then Bob Roll rides it across the N. Atlantic...

Operation Gadget | How the Outdoor Life Network Brings the Tour de France to Viewers in North America

Dave Aiello over at Operation Gadget, keeps an eye out for the Tour's technology every year, and he's kicking off his TdF coverage with a look at how Outdoor Life Network instantaneously bounces their raw Tour coverage up to a satellite, down to their Connecticut facilities for production, up to a satellite, down to Atlanta, then up to a satellite for distribution to your local cable provider.

Dave talked to OLN's VP of Network Operations, who told him they've actually got their key European satellite locked up for the entire month of July, so they can cover any breaking Tour news as it happens. That is one serious chunk of change.

In 2003, I liked the techno music bed under the day's highlights and the synth voice repeating "tour de france"....satisfies the inner cheeseball.

Why is Bobby Julich the "Invisible Man?" Nobody on OLN mentions him - how come?

Does anyone know about getting a fine for getting too many water bottles on the Tour de France? The announcers mentioned this morning that Lance might have to be fined for taking another water bottle???????

would somebody please tell Al Troutwig to please stop comparing the sport of biking to baseball and football. It does not compare and if he knew anything about the sport of cycling he would know that. Actually, please tell him to just let Bob Roll talk.

Flipped the TV on this AM....and NO Bob Roll as a commentator.
What a dissapointment.....

Why is the discovery team (johan Bruneel) not following the program that has won the tour seven years in a row. One leader, one team. Lance and Johan built this program, and it worked. What the heck is going on.

Somebody, pllleeeeeaaasssse get Al Trauwig out of the commentator booth!! He doesn't speak well on the Tour, has no original commentary but repeats things he's heard from the others in the booth. His voice is pressured and macho, like football talk, and he FOR SURE should not be talking more than Bob Roll! The dude's never been on a bike!

I'm so sleepy, cuz now I have to get up early in the morning to watch the beloved Phil and Paul, in order to avoid prime time coverage with Al's annoying speak. I'm sure he's good at Olympics, and football....please go back there, Al.
