At right, Italian cyclist Alessio Galletti leads the field early in the climb of Brasstown Bald at the 2004 Tour de Georgia.

Galletti died today in Spain while racing at the one-day Subida al Naranco. Apparently, Galletti continued to ride, despite shortness of breath, and medical personnel on the scene believed he suffered a heart attack.

Galletti's biggest career victory was probably his stage win in the 2001 Tour Down Under.
