Over at ThePaceline.com (free reg. req.), Watson says:
...it has to be acknowledged that Lance has a new Tour-challenger in Mickael Rasmussen, who stayed with Lance almost to the line today and is just 38-seconds behind overall. What will probably happen is that Rabobank will defend Rasmussen's 2nd-place overall and ride WITH Discovery in the coming mountain stages, and not against them. But a mountain-goat like Rasmussen can gain 40-seconds easily if he times it just right; he did very little work today and is therefore reasonably fresh for tomorrow's three-mountain stage to Briancon. Expect to see him and Lance riding together on the Col du Galibier, with perhaps Basso, Moreau, Valverde and Mancebo with them.
